Lonsdale has mostly ensuite rooms with a smaller number of shared bathroom facilities rooms. Our accommodation blocks are Houses 2 and 3 (bedrooms with shared bathrooms) and Houses 32 to 45 (bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms). Lonsdale is also one of the colleges which offers catered accommodation.
Our accommodation blocks are nestled around the Lonsdale building which is the heart of our community. We’re close to Cartmel and Graduate Colleges too so this part of campus feels like a village in itself.
We are proud of the picturesque surroundings of Lonsdale’s accommodation as we’re right next to the sports fields and the path to the Sports Centre. There is a BBQ area and we’re especially fond of the boulevard that links us with Cartmel and Graduate Colleges.
Houses 2 and 3 are Blea and Brotherswater are respectively and are named after well known beauty spots in the Lake District. Houses 32 to 45 are all named after villages or hamlets in the Kirkby Lonsdale area.

Bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms (Houses 32 to 45): there are 7-8 people in each flat with shared kitchen/dining space.
Bedrooms with shared bathrooms (Houses 2 to 3): there are flats for 6/7 people sharing a kitchen, shower room and two separate rooms with WCs and small hand wash basins and larger flats which house 9 students with a larger communal kitchen, two separate rooms with WC and 2 showers.

The Lonsdale bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms offer a bed (with underbed storage), desk, wardrobe, noticeboard, shelves and a chair. The rooms are carpeted and there are curtains or blinds at the window. The bathrooms are a tiled wet room containing a shower, washbasin with mirror and a WC.
The Lonsdale bedrooms with shared bathrooms have a desk with 3 drawers, desk chair, wardrobe, wall mounted bookshelf, notice board, sink with mirror and light and shaving point.
The kitchens are equipped with a table and chairs, kettle, toaster and microwave. There are also cookers, fridges, freezers and cupboard storage space.
Note that all hobs are electric and are not induction.
A vacuum cleaner, ironing board and iron are also supplied – these are usually stored in a cupboard on the flat corridor if not in the kitchen.
In Lonsdale’s bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms (Houses 32 to 45), most mattresses are 1900 x 900mm. A small number are 2100 x 900mm.
In Lonsdale’s bedrooms with shared bathrooms, mattresses are 2100 x 900mm.
All beds have underbed storage.
In the bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, the typical desk area is 1780mm wide x 560mm deep.
Under the bed you can fit several storage boxes if you choose, up to 280mm tall and 760mm deep. The hanging rail section of the wardrobe is 560mm wide, and there are shelves above and to the side of it, as well as above the desk.
Freedom Eats offers a flexible alternative to those students that want to live in self-catered accommodation but still enjoy discounted food in campus outlets at their convenience.
Campus accommodation for 2nd/3rd year students is limited but each college has a proportionate amount available each year for returning students. We publicise our application process after the annual Housing Fair each November.
